Can I as a grandparent become "legal parent" of my grandson ??

Can I as a grandfather of a child become his legal father ?? - My grandson's dad has died & I want to become his "legal father" so the baby boy can have the benefits he deserves. His mother which is my daughter is still alive & the father has passed away without enough credits worked so the baby can get social security help. Is this possible ?? - Thx, Dan
