criminal responsibility

IF ILLEGAL MATERIALS ARE PRESENT AT A UK ADDRESS AND THE POLICE HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. UNDER UK LAW WHO HAS ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY TO COLLECT AND DESTROY THESE ITEMS?
THE MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC WHO REPORTED THE ITEMS OR THE POLICE TO WHICH THEY WERE REPORTED?

if you have the material and the Police is notified is strange the police has not taken the Item for evidence in a case against the person or ia yourself ....
if case close and you still have the item then do what you like with it as no use to anyone other than the person involved ..
