Taking a child out of province

Posted in Divorce, Custody, and Family 9 months ago, 1 reply

My 22 year old son has daughter with his ex girlfriend. She keeps threatening (and has done it) to move back to Ontario. He is in Alberta. Is there anyway he can stop her from doing this? He has limited funds. Can he do some things himself instead of hiring a lawyer?
Thank you for any help you can give,
April

Tell your son to get a lawyer to place an injunction preventing her from leaving the province. From the research I've done, it might be his only hope. My son's girlfriend did this to my son. She took the baby against doctors orders from the hospital and moved back to Ontario. It's been almost a year and my son is now back there. She won't let him see the baby and continues to try and stop him. This is a situation that is becoming very common and I know the answers are out there somewhere. IF your sons girlfriend leaves, don't give up hope. You're not alone. There has to be some law that says she can't do this. If I find anything, I will post and let you know. In the meantime, please feel free to email me (sonja0364@hotmail.com). Maybe finding others like us will either find the answers or change the laws.
