Wood cutting business next door to our home driving us crazy

We live in the countryside in Scotland. Our house is a steading and backs on to the farmhouse. All buildings from the original farm complex have been converted to private homes. In the last year, our neighbour has started up a wood cutting business. He has purchased a very large noisy lorry and cutting machinery for this purpose. There is a lot of mess including over twenty oil barrels scattered over his land, but within sight of all our rear windows of our house. Both the noise and mess has become completely unacceptable. We planned to sell our house, but I don;t think anyone would buy it now. He operates the machinery and starts up the lorry right next to my bedroom window, particularly at the weekend. He works on another job during the week, and goes out cutting down trees and wood at his home after work and over weekends. It is severely impacting on our lives in our own home. What rights do we have. We generally get on with our neighbours and don;t want to say anything. I just feel he is taking advantage of the situation and does not really care about the affects of his behaviour on anyone as long as he is making money. In the meantime we are losing money because we don;t have any hope of selling our house at a decent price if at all. What are our rights and does he need a proper license to do this or need our agreement to be carrying out these activities. I;m really fed up of it now. Thanks for your help
