I have been living in a 1 bed flat in Newcastle Upon Tyne for 1 yr. I am leaving on 20th Sept. There has been damp in the flat which the landlord has treated but there is still a problem in the bedroom inside two of the fitted wardrobes and my clothes are full of mildew. My Landlord says he will do nothing about this as he cannot be certain that my clothes were not like this when I entered the flat one year ago! Does he have any legal obligation to pay for my dry cleaning! He says not. I have said that I will deduct the cost of dry cleaning from my last payment cheque to him. He is also holding my deposit of £525 which I understand is against the law as he should have passed it over to the TPS last April 2007. Do I have any legs to stand on.

if they do not then you are able to recover 3 times the deposit from the landlord
i am a landlord myself and i take this very seriously as a receive significant sums for deposits from students
