I hired a contractor to renovate my home; he walked off the job about 2 months without completing it. I paid about 50% of the job. I put a claim with DCA, but reluctant to have him back on the job, as DCA mediator suggests due to a lot of grief and other unlawful tactics on the contractor's part. Is it legal for me to have another contractor to complete the job with the remaining balance that would have been paid if defaulted contractor completed the job?
